Mental Health Research Team
The Mental Health Research Team (MHRT) is focused on developing the collaborations and research agendas that will enhance the collective efforts to address mental health disparities as well as how mental illness impacts chronic illnesses commonly seen in the US/Mexico border region. MHRT includes members from the College of Health and Social Services at NMSU including public health and social work as well as from local health agencies key in the delivery of behavioral health in the region. MHRT was formally designated as Violence and Trauma but has grown to become more encompassing of all the behavioral/psychological issues hindering the health and welfare of many individuals living in the border area. Efforts are underway to create list-serves to share information about events, speakers, and policies affecting mental and behavioral health, as well as discussion concerning potential research projects around improving mental health, as well as ways to engage in informed, healthy dialogue about mental health issues.
